This Alex book was like that rollercoaster at the fair: thrilling, full of twists and turns, but maybe not the smoothest ride. Yeah, reviews are all over the place, and it's not my fave Alex book, but hey, the man writes page-turners!
I love reading thrillers, and psychological thrillers are probably my go-to genre - I've read a lot of them. And let me tell you, I read this book in ONE day!
I started it on and off on a flight, read it all the way back home in the car (I live in Bengaluru - so that's a lot of hours). You will not be able to stop reading.
Unfortunately, the narrator's character development faltered at times, particularly in regards to the believability of certain imagined scenarios. An alternative perspective, perhaps from the intriguing Lana Farrar would have been amazing.
No spoilers, but let's just say I was hoping for a knockout punch, and it landed more like a playful jab. Still, the plot twist had me saying "Whoa!" and there's a cool little easter egg for fans of The Silent Patient (wink wink).
Listen, Alex will always be an auto-buy for me. This genre is my jam, and his storytelling is fire. But yeah, this one wasn't quite the mind-blowing experience I had with The Silent Patient. Still a fun ride, though!
Definitely pick it up.
